If you do decide to run them during the evening hours, you should be careful with how you do it. I wouldn't recommend waiting until their nighttime and testing them under bright white lights - that can cause some problems with the animals' circadian rhythms and may cause any number of unexpected effects. You could test them under red light (which they can't see) and it shouldn't cause any problems, though. Pehrson, Alan. (2014).
